Ken Belson, "Trenton: Meadowlands Developer Fined," in The New York Times, August 2, 2007 at p. B4.
"EnCap Golf Holdings, a developer that has faltered in its bid to transform garbage dumps in the Meadowlands into homes and an entertainment district, has been fined $1.054 MILLION for allowing methane gas to escape from one of its construction sites, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection said yesterday. According to agency documents, the gas was released from the Kingsland Landfill in Lyndhurst" -- Lyndhurst is reputedly (and allegedly) big time mob territory -- "where one of EnCap's construction sites is located. The leaks were detected from October of last year through July 24. Methane gas is typically funneled through underground pipes [like drug money to New Jersey politicians and judges] underneath the landfill. EnCap, which is owned by Cheroke Investment Partners in North Carolina, was also fined for not obtaining permits to operate the landfill. The company plans to appeal the fine, a spokesman said."
Don't worry, they'll just call their friends on the New Jersey Supreme Court, allegedly. This week the Paterson School district was required to remain under supervision as a result of defective performance and creative accounting for expeditures. That's what they call "the new math."
"Hey, wadda-ya gonna do. Same old, same old ... know what I mean?"
